Bi-National Teacher working with students using Math Masters

In July 2012, through collaboration with Centennial BOCES, Colorado Department of Education, the Morgan County School District RE-3 Fort Morgan CO. and the Bi-National Consortium. We were able to host two Bi-National teachers from Mexico. The two teachers worked with migrant students from the Fort Morgan School District.

The teachers received professional development in using Math Masters curriculum provided by a consultant with CDE. The teachers focused their efforts in working with our 2-5 grade students who enjoyed the hands-on approach to math. The students showed gains from the pre-assessment to the post-assessment. In addition, we hosted two parent afternoon celebrations. The parents were invited to come eat lunch with their children, play games with their children who made the games to take home, and learn more about the Math Masters and Bi-National Programs.

This was my first experience with working with the Bi-National program. I can say that it was a lot of work and demanded very strong collaboration and communication with all the entities that were involved. I will also say every minute was worth it! The students and families were engaged, the teachers did a wonderful job, and it was a great success! The Federal Programs staff, in the Fort Morgan CBOCES office, was outstanding with accommodating this program. Thanks to all of you who made this such a great success!
